Disney officials recently announced that Disneyland and Disney World, as well as Disney Cruise Line and Disneyland Paris, would be closed from March 16 - 31, 2020.
In this never before seen act, it brought to me the reality of preventing crowds and keeping the public healthy for as long as possible.
I'm so sad to know that the Disney parks and cruise line I love and enjoy so much will be quiet for the next two weeks. Knowing Disney, they will probably use the time to get things done around the parks and ships including the glow up of Cinderella's Castle and other scheduled maintenance.
As a travel agent, I'm still in shock that so many trips are now cancelled. Thankfully for my clients, both Disney and Universal are offering full refunds for trip scheduled during this time. I've been hard at work to adjust dates or make sure the previously planned trips for these next two weeks are fully compensated, hopefully allowing clients to rebook for future dates.
The question remains: When should we begin traveling again?
Here's my answer, and I'm not a doctor, I'm a travel professional: as soon as you are comfortable. But purchase trip insurance.
I'll continue to work on things behind the scenes and plan to spend a little more time with my family these next two weeks as we all work from home (which isn't THAT much of a change for us since we homeschool and my business is home-based).
But I will also continue to plan late spring, summer and fall trips as my clients feel comfortable making those plans. Travel is good for the soul, and our souls are a little tender right now with all the virus worries.
Getting out and enjoying the sun or the roller coasters and getting a hug from Mickey might be just what your family needs this summer.
When you use a travel agent to plan your trip, and what I've been doing for my current clients, is help give them peace of mind. I'm doing everything in my power to advocate, keep them alerted of the changes, and make the calls to suppliers to keep their money safe.
Let's keep traveling friends, and keep making plans to use your trusted travel agents.
Can't wait to see you in the parks again soon!
